Study on the Visual Condition in Parkinson's Disease

Investigation of Visual Difficulties in Parkinson's Disease

Recruiting
18 years and older
All
Phase N/A

This study investigates visual deficits in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), a condition that affects movement and can also cause non-motor symptoms. These symptoms include visual difficulties, which can worsen the quality of life for many individuals with PD. This study aims to better understand how these visual issues relate to the disease itself and how they can be managed. Some of the visual problems associated with PD include decreased visual acuity, sensitivity to light and color, and eyelid dysfunctions.

Participants in the study will undergo various procedures to assess their visual health, including the use of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). OCT is a non-invasive imaging test that uses light waves to take cross-section pictures of the retina, allowing the detection of changes in retinal nerve fiber layer and macular thickness. These assessments can help identify visual markers of PD and evaluate the effectiveness of specific diagnostic protocols for visual disorders in PD patients.

  • Who can participate: Adults aged 18 years or older who have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and are in the ON phase of their usual treatment can participate. Participants must be in Hoehn-Yahr Stage 1 to 3 and able to provide informed consent.
  • Study details: Participants will undergo eye examinations using Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) to measure changes in retinal nerve fiber layer and macular thickness. The study aims to establish diagnostic protocols for visual disorders in PD patients.

Learn more about clinical trials

What is a clinical trial?

A clinical trial is a study designed to test specific interventions or treatments' effectiveness and safety, paving the way for new, innovative healthcare solutions.

Why should I take part in a clinical trial?

Participating in a clinical trial provides early access to potentially effective treatments and directly contributes to the healthcare advancements that benefit us all.

How long does a clinical trial take place?

The duration of clinical trials varies. Some trials last weeks, some years, depending on the phase and intention of the trial.

Do I get compensated for taking part in clinical trials?

Compensation varies per trial. Some offer payment or reimbursement for time and travel, while others may not.

How safe are clinical trials?

Clinical trials follow strict ethical guidelines and protocols to safeguard participants' health. They are closely monitored and safety reviewed regularly.
