This study investigates the safety and tolerability of a 6-week program combining Inspiratory Muscle Training and cardiovascular exercise for children and adolescents with asthma. Asthma is a condition where the airways narrow and swell, causing breathing difficulties. The study aims to understand how these exercises can improve the strength and endurance of respiratory muscles.
Participants will undergo specific training sessions designed to enhance their breathing capabilities and overall fitness. The study will monitor changes in respiratory muscle strength, exercise tolerance, and symptoms like shortness of breath. This will help explore the potential benefits of combining inspiratory muscle training with regular exercise.
- Who can participate: Children and adolescents aged 10-17 years with clinician-diagnosed asthma and a sedentary lifestyle can participate. They must have a BMI in the 85th percentile or higher and a committed caregiver.
- Study details: Participants will join a 6-week exercise program with inspiratory muscle training and cardiovascular exercises to improve breathing strength and endurance. A placebo is not used in this study.
